THE WHY
Wakulima was founded from a painful conviction: no child should die from hunger or malnutrition when farmers have the capacity to produce nutritious food. Our founder's personal experience of losing a younger sister to malnutrition shaped a mission to transform agriculture into a pathway to better nutrition, farmer prosperity and resilient livelihoods.
Wakulima connects smallholder farmers to reliable markets through aggregation, processing and distribution of affordable, nutritious foods, including orange-fleshed sweet potato products. We combine sustainable agriculture, local value addition and nutrition-focused markets to create shared value from farm to consumer.
Wakulima directly engages 760 farmers and indirectly reaches 2,765 beneficiaries. Average farmer income has grown from US$380 in 2023 to US$940 today, achieved jointly with our partner TAMA across the same value chain. Audited 2025 revenue reached US$166,889, with growing customers and processing capacity.
With catalytic investment and strategic partnerships, Wakulima aims to reach 5,000+ farmers, increase farmer incomes beyond US$1,500 annually, exceed US$2 million in annual revenue, serve 10,000+ customers, create 250+ jobs, reach 1 million+ mothers and children with nutritious foods, and establish regional export markets across East Africa.
We invite impact investors, DFIs, foundations and strategic partners to co-invest in building a commercially sustainable, nutrition-sensitive and farmer-led food system in Africa.
